Funny how little I've changed after all this time. I started playing guitar and drawing when I was very young and I'm still doing the same thing almost 50 years later. My music and my visual arts are intertwined on a deep level and although it's created some consternation as to where to put my energies, somehow things have worked out and over the years they both have provided me with a livelihood.
The process of creating music informs the process of creating art. The creative process of playing music has been proven to engage more brain function than any other kind of activity, making extensive use of both hemispheres of the brain, the common denominator to both arts is the imagination and that’s where it all comes together, and can, for me, create a synesthesia where colors have sound and images possess musical qualities.
Being known for a particular painting technique or approach has never been my objective as a visual artist. For me spontaneity, playfulness and improvisation are the common denominators of art and music and functions as the foundations of my creative process.
