John Flores began watercolor painting fourteen years ago. Largely self-taught, he has been prolific – painting hundreds of landscapes primarily based on places he has travelled.
Growing up in Sunnyvale, and a Santa Cruz resident for seventeen years, he has always expressed himself through art. He’s done work in pencil, charcoal, stain glass, and furniture design.
Since moving to watercolors, he has tried to paint daily. He has taken classes with well-known artists such as, Sally Jorgensen, Bill Fravel, Linda Lord, Sylvia Miller, Birgit O’Conner, Tom Lynch.
He has exhibited his art in Los Gatos, Santa Cruz, Sunnyvale, and Los Altos. His art has also been on display in the state capital, in the office of Secretary of Natural Resources, John Laird.
John believes that the learning process continues through constant work. He has sold many paintings, now hanging in homes around Northern California, as well as having painted numerous works on commission. Every June John has a show in his Santa Cruz garden, showing and selling many pieces to local collectors of his work.
His travels give him many resources for paintings, subjects from the windmills of La Mancha to the centuries-old cities of Prague and Chartres and stateside locales such as the Mendocino Coast and Sedona, and Yosemite National Park.
