Although she has been part of the Santa Cruz art community as curator for Oswald Restaurant for the last eight years, Janet Silverglate has only recently been creating her own artwork. Janet has a B.A. in Art History/Dance from the University of California Riverside and a M.F.A. in Dance from Mills College. She danced in the Bay Area for many years until her move to Santa Cruz County. Janet has taught dance and Pilates at UCSC and choreographed for Cabrillo College.
Janet has always been a designer of many disciplines. Along with choreography she has designed gardens, interiors and worked in textile arts. An avid treasure hunter she has finally found her art form in Assemblage and Mixed Media. Using salvaged, found, recycled materials to create her work, Janet has come to love the process of design and construction. She participated in her second Santa Cruz Open Studios tour this past October and has been showing her work at various venues throughout Santa Cruz County. Recently Janet was part of the SCRAP program for the City of Santa Cruz. This pilot program allowed artists access to the Resource Recovery Center on Dimeo Lane.
