Melody Overstreet at Coffee Cat

This series of collagraph prints explores the subtle groove of the universe through textural marks, fragmented impressions, and muscular gestures. Utilizing art as a mode of inquiry, Melody creates compositions with tiny winnowed seeds, plant dust, an awl, oil-based ink, sandpaper, and a hand-saw. She works to depict a micro and macroscopic perspective that highlights the life cycle of plants, the body's interior rhythms, and celestial happenings. Through this work, she seeks to describe and hold space for the immense wonderment that composes and sustains us.

Melody Overstreet is an Iranian-American artist, poet, and educator. She has exhibited her work locally as well as internationally, with her most recent series landing at the Rui Cunha Foundation in collaboration with the Yun Yi Arts and Cultural Communications Association in Macau, China. Her work has been featured in publications inclusive of Seed Broadcast, Inverness Almanac, and Chinquapin Quarterly. She currently lives in Santa Cruz, California where she teaches Book Arts at Kirby School, and offers nature-craft centered workshops through UCSC's Arboretum, Cabrillo College Extension, and The Santa Cruz Natural History Museum. Her educational approach emphasizes the importance of connection to our origins through place, community, and seeds.
