About Nariño...In the southernmost part of Colombia, on the Ecuador border, Nariño is home to some of the consistently best offerings from Colombia, which is deservedly held in very high regard in the specialty coffee industry. Most of our Colombian coffee comes from Southern Colombia, the four appellations we usually see in the rotation being Nariño, Cauca, Tolima and Huila. Coffees from this area generally exhibit a raw sugar sweetness and an abundance of stone fruit and sweet citrus.

About Major de Nariño and Luis Felipe Ordoñez...Mejor de Nariño is a micro-lot cupping and auction event coordinated by Inconexus Fine Coffees, a Colombian exporter, and Royal Coffee in Oakland , our home port. It has brought some spectacular coffees to the table this year, one of which is this offering from Luis Felipe Ordoñez. Luis has been producing coffee on his 7 acre lot for over 3 decades, and the care taken in the growing, harvesting and milling are evident in the clean and bright profile of this cup.

The cup starts and finishes with a pronounced sweetness, The mouthfeel is smooth and full. Notes of tangerines and berries dominate in the middle, with a caramel sweetness in evidence throughout. Really well balanced coffee. It's good any way you extract it, although our preference is for pourover, which really allows all that fruit to shine.
